Enjoy
your life today.
Have you ever taken a good whisk of your favourite perfume and then you just felt like you could live in the
bottle forever. You save up and it really does seem like a lifetime and then
you finally can afford the expensive perfume. You use it only on those
important occasions and then gosh it is all finished. All you have left is the
empty bottle. You savour it for a while and then think about how long it will
take you to buy another one. Gosh, you think, perfume is nice but really expensive
to keep.
Is your life like that right now? Do you feel like you have to save up
for some years before you really start to live? Are you going to have a bout of
fun and excitement and then return to an empty bottle filled with memories? Are
you going to sniff at life and then dream of one day being able to afford that
true moment of happiness? When will you really start to live? When I was
seventeen years old a friend of mine asked me when I would start to live life
optimally. I had lost a brother to cancer and lived with a cloud over my head.
Yes, I smiled sparingly and believed that one day the puzzle of life would all
fit together; however it took that soft yet deep question to wake me up from my
slumber. Sometimes, we can go through life with a lot of dreams and
aspirations. We believe that some day it shall all fit together and then life
would really make a lot of sense. Well, life never seems to wait. There is a
scripture that I simply love and adore. I could read it all day long. Hebrews
13:5-6 captures life in simple words. It says that we should be content with
what we have because God would never leave us nor forsake us. Yes, I know that
it is really difficult to be content with what we have yet, once this secret is
really understood we become free to live the life we really want to live.
We are no longer trapped in the cycle of waiting
and hoping for better days. Instead we see each day as the best day, a chance
to live and be happy with the present. Life is filled with the fragrance of
love from God. He pours out the perfume into our lives through the birth of a
child, the hug from a friend, a nicely wrapped gift, a smile and the words
spoken in love in dire times. So, the next time you feel like you are saving
bits or chunks of your life for that special day when you shall finally be
worthy to wear those nice shoes, dress or even have a nice meal remember that
you have today. The perfume must be sprayed and the fragrance must be elegantly
felt for you deserve it today.
